Governor Paterson Applauds President Obama’s Action on Stem Cell Research and Announces $101.8 million in New State Funding for Stem Cell Research
March 9, 2009 -- "I applaud President Obama for signing this Executive Order and restoring federal funding at a time when our country is reeling from a historic economic downturn. Support for stem cell research offers hope for better health to millions while providing an economic stimulus to the biomedical community."
In addition to commending President Obama, Governor David A. Paterson announced $101.8 million in new State funding for stem cell research, reinforcing New York’s continued investment and leading role in this rapidly evolving scientific field.

Consortia Planning Grants Awarded
ALBANY, NY (September 19, 2008) -- State Health Commissioner Richard F. Daines, M.D., today announced the awarding of $2 million in consortia planning grants to strengthen New York’s capacity for stem cell research.
"This important investment in stem cell research is strengthening the state’s position as a leader in biomedical research and biotechnology, while supporting the development of possible new therapies to alleviate and treat debilitating diseases and conditions, such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s ALS, paralysis, and diabetes," said Commissioner Daines, who chairs the Empire State Stem Cell Board.

New York's Stem Cell Research Strategic Plan Available for Public Comment
ALBANY, N.Y. (May 28, 2008) - The public is invited to review and comment
on a strategic framework to guide New York State's $600 million, 11-year
investment in stem cell research.
The Empire State Stem Cell Board's draft Strategic Plan is available at the
New York State Stem Cell Science (NYSTEM) website at www.stemcell.ny.gov.
Comments will be accepted until June 20, 2008.

Governor Paterson Announces Nearly $109 Million in New Stem Cell Research Funding
ALBANY, NY (May 8, 2008) Governor David A. Paterson today announced that nearly $109 million in new state funding is being made available to support stem cell research initiatives in New York. The nearly $109 million represents the second round of available funding from the state’s 11-year, $600 million stem cell research initiative that was approved as part of last year’s state budget.
Four Requests for Applications (RFAs) issued today invite proposals from in-state research institutions for stem cell research activities that encourage collaborations among scientists, facilitate the acquisition and development of specialized equipment, and support researcher-initiated and targeted stem cell research
